Baby Update and...the Crockpot?

So, thanks for the prayers peeps.

All is well in baby land.

I talked to my doctor yesterday on the phone and she said she wasn't too worried and felt like I will be just fine.  My body seems to be back to normal and all is hunky dory.  :)

Praise the Lord.

Baby is doing well...kicking up a storm.  Love.

So yeah.

Just thought I'd give an update on THAT.  :)

On a completely different topic.  I mean...for real different.

A question.

So, first off, I cannot make myself love the crockpot.  I've tried.  Like really tried.  It's a great concept.  Throw it all together, turn it on, walk away.  BOOM!  Food!  I feel like no matter what I cook it all tastes the same.

Alright, the actual question...

I've made chili in it like 10 times probably.  I decided to venture out and try these baby back ribs in the crock pot for V-Day.  And I kid you not...it tasted slightly like the chili.  For real.  I don't know if it's my imagination and I'm already prejudice, conjuring up preconceived ideas about what it's going to taste like or if it's in FACT possible that the chili taste has soaked into my crockpot.  Jason even noticed it.

So.  Has this happened to you?  I mean, we wash the thing all the time...obviously.  I'm just curious.  Because I WANT to like the crockpot.  But right now...I'm thinking about donating it to the thrift store.  Seriously.  Or just never making anything but chili in it, haha.

  1. Have you tried the crockpot liners they have now? Maybe that would help? Plus they make clean-up super easy! And I have to agree with you - I love the concept, but I have yet to find a meal that I really LOVE in the crockpot.

  2. Genius Kali! Seriously, I had no idea those bags existed. I'm curious to try it and see if that solves the problem. If not...I just may have to come to the conclusion that I'm not a crockpot girl. :)

  3. Hmmm... I don't notice this, yet, all I really make in the crock pot are chilis and soups. Actually, no I also make yummy sweet and sour meatballs. Or you can wrap your russet potatoes in tin foil and put them in the crock pot all day and they're perfectly baked for dinner - either loaded baked potatoes or sides! Try those recipes...

  4. I'm not sure about your chili issue, but I haven't completely jumped on the crockpot wagon either. I like it when I really plan ahead and know I won't have time in the evening to cook. But, I feel that all the food comes out with the same texture (kind of mushy). Even chicken, so I tend to stay away from it.

thanks Kali, for the liner idea!
